  • What does 3d print mean?

3D printing (also called additive manufacturing) is a process that creates a physical object from a digital 3D model by building it up layer by layer.

How it works (simple explanation):

1.You start with a digital 3D file (usually made in software like Blender, Fusion 360, Tinkercad, or downloaded from sites like Thingiverse).

2.The file is “sliced” into thousands of ultra-thin horizontal layers using special software.

3.The 3D printer reads these layers and deposits or hardens material exactly where it’s needed, one layer at a time, until the complete object is formed.

Common types of 3D printing:

1.FDM/FFF (Fused Deposition Modeling) – Most common and affordable. Melts plastic filament (like PLA or ABS) and squeezes it out like a hot glue gun.

2.SLA/DLP (Resin printing) – Uses a laser or projector to cure liquid resin layer by layer. Gives very smooth, detailed results.

3.SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) – Uses a laser to fuse powdered material (nylon, metal, etc.). Used in industry.

4.Metal 3D printing (DMLS, SLM, etc.) – Similar to SLS but with metal powder; very expensive and used for aerospace, medical implants, etc.

What people use 3D printing for:

1.Prototypes and custom parts

2.Hobbies (figures, cosplay props, RC cars)

3.Replacement parts for appliances or tools

4.Medical (prosthetics, dental aligners, surgical guides)

5.Architecture models

6.Fashion, jewelry, art
