  • How to clean 3d printer nozzle?

A.. Quick & Easy: Cold Pull (Atomic Pull) – Best for most clogs

What you need:

Cleaning filament (e.g., eSun Cleaning Filament, Nylon, or plain PLA/PETG works too)

Or regular PLA if nothing else

Steps:

1.Heat the nozzle to 240–260°C (use a high temp so old plastic melts fully).

2.Load the cleaning filament (or PLA).

3.Push ~10–15 cm of filament through manually (or extrude via menu).

4.Lower the temperature to 90–110°C (for PLA) or ~140°C (for Nylon/cleaning filament).

5.When the temperature drops, quickly and firmly pull the filament straight out (use pliers if needed).

6.Repeat 5–10 times. The tip of the pulled filament should show 7.black/burnt specks or a clean pointed tip when done.

8.Finish with one final hot pull at 200°C to clear any residue.

B.. Needle/Acupuncture Cleaning (for minor blockages)

Tools: 0.4 mm guitar E string, acupuncture needle, or the thin wire that came with your printer.

Steps:

1.Heat nozzle to 220–240°C.

2.Gently insert the needle/wire into the nozzle tip and wiggle/move it up and down.

3.Do NOT force it hard — you can damage the nozzle.

4.Extrude some filament afterward to push out debris.

C. Heat Soak + Brush (for external oozing & buildup)

1.Heat nozzle to ~250°C.

2.Use a brass wire brush (or steel for stubborn spots) to clean the outside.

3.Wipe with a paper towel or rag while hot (careful!).

D.Full Disassembly & Deep Clean (fully jammed nozzle)

1.Heat hotend to 220–250°C.

2.Remove the nozzle with a socket wrench (usually 6 mm or 7 mm).

3.Options:Torch method (fastest): Heat the nozzle tip with a butane torch or lighter for 10–20 seconds until plastic burns out (do this outside — it smokes a lot).Heat in acetone (for ABS/ASA clogs): Submerge in acetone overnight.Soak in solvent if needed (rarely necessary).

4.Poke through with a needle while still hot.

5.Reinstall with a tiny bit of anti-seize on threads (optional).

E. Prevention Tips

1.Always do cold pulls every 5–10 kg of filament.

2.Avoid cheap filaments with fillers that jam nozzles.

3.Keep a brass brush handy and clean the nozzle exterior regularly.

4.Use good dust filters on filament spools.
