- What does die cast metal mean?
Die cast metal refers to metal parts or components produced through die casting, a manufacturing process that creates precise, high-strength shapes by injecting molten metal into a reusable steel mold (called a die) under high pressure and at high speed.
How the Die Casting Process Works
Preparation: A die (mold) made of hardened steel is created to match the desired shape, often with multiple cavities for mass production.
Melting and Injection: Non-ferrous metals like zinc, aluminum, magnesium, or copper alloys are melted and forced into the die at pressures up to 20,000 psi (pounds per square inch).
Cooling and Ejection: The metal solidifies quickly in the die, forming a strong, detailed part that's then ejected and finished (e.g., trimmed or plated).
This method is efficient for producing large volumes of complex, thin-walled parts with excellent dimensional accuracy and surface finish, commonly used in automotive components, electronics housings, toys, and appliances.
