  • Can plastic molding be painted?

Yes, plastic molding can be painted, and it's often recommended to do so for better protection and aesthetics, especially for PVC trim used indoors or outdoors.

This helps seal the surface, reduce dirt buildup, and increase durability.

Quick Tips for Painting Plastic Molding

1.Prep the surface: Clean it thoroughly, then lightly sand or scuff with a sanding sponge to help the paint adhere.

2.Use a primer: Apply a bonding primer like Zinsser Stix or XIM Bonderite for smooth adhesion, especially on slick PVC.

3.Choose the right paint: Opt for 100% acrylic latex paint with a high-quality brush; for exterior use, avoid dark colors on PVC as they can absorb heat.

4.Apply in layers: Prime first, then add 2-3 thin coats of paint, allowing drying time between each.

5.The process for molded plastic parts is similar: prep, prime, and topcoat for a professional finish.
