Die casting primarily uses non-ferrous metals with relatively low melting points, as these are well-suited for the high-pressure injection process and reusable steel molds (dies). 

1.Zinc Alloys:

Examples: Zamak 3, Zamak 5, ZA-8.

Properties: High strength, excellent ductility, low melting point (~380–420°C), and superior surface finish for plating or coating.

Applications: Small, intricate parts like automotive locks, electronics connectors, and hardware (e.g., door handles).

Advantages: Long die life (up to 1 million cycles), thin walls (as low as 0.5 mm), and cost-effective for high volumes.

Process: Typically hot chamber die casting due to low melting point.

2.Aluminum Alloys:

Examples: A380, A356, ADC12.

Properties: Lightweight, good strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion-resistant, and moderate melting point (~550–650°C).

Applications: Automotive parts (e.g., engine blocks, transmission housings), aerospace components, and electronics enclosures.

Advantages: High strength, recyclable, and suitable for complex shapes.

Process: Cold chamber die casting, as aluminum’s higher melting point can damage hot chamber systems.

3.Magnesium Alloys:

Examples: AZ91D, AM60.

Properties: Lightest of die casting metals, excellent strength-to-weight ratio, and good machinability.

Applications: Automotive (e.g., steering wheels, seat frames), aerospace, and portable electronics.

Advantages: Lightweight and good vibration damping.

Process: Hot or cold chamber, depending on alloy and equipment.

4.Copper Alloys:

Examples: Brass, bronze.

Properties: High strength, excellent wear resistance, and good conductivity, but higher melting point (~900–1000°C).

Applications: Plumbing fittings, electrical components, and decorative hardware.

Advantages: Durability and corrosion resistance.

Process: Cold chamber due to high melting point.

5.Other Materials (less common):

Tin Alloys: Used for specific low-strength applications (e.g., bearings) due to low melting point and softness.

Lead Alloys: Rarely used due to toxicity concerns, but applicable in niche cases like battery components.
