Die casting is a metal casting process where molten metal is forced under high pressure into a mold cavity to create precise, complex parts. The process involves:
1.Mold Preparation: A steel mold, called a die, is designed with the desired part shape and prepared for casting.
Melting: Metal (commonly aluminum, zinc, or magnesium) is melted in a furnace.
Injection: The molten metal is injected into the die under high pressure (typically 1,000–30,000 psi) using a hydraulic or mechanical press.
Cooling: The metal cools and solidifies rapidly within the die, taking on the mold’s shape.
Ejection: The solidified part is ejected from the die, often using ejector pins.
Trimming/Finishing: Excess material (flash) is removed, and the part may undergo additional processes like machining or surface treatment.
2.Types:
Hot Chamber Die Casting: Used for metals with low melting points (e.g., zinc). The injection system is submerged in molten metal.
Cold Chamber Die Casting: Used for metals with high melting points (e.g., aluminum). Molten metal is ladled into the injection system.
3.Advantages:
High precision and dimensional accuracy.
Smooth surface finish.
Suitable for high-volume production.
Complex geometries with thin walls.
