1.Function:

Dies facilitate operations like cutting, bending, punching, embossing, flanging, or coining to transform sheet metal into parts such as panels, brackets, or enclosures.

They ensure high precision and repeatability, critical for mass production or prototyping.

2.Types of Stamping Dies:

Single-Station Dies: Perform one operation (e.g., cutting or forming) per press stroke, suitable for simple or low-volume parts.

Progressive Dies: Process the sheet metal through multiple stations in a single die, each performing a different operation, ideal for high-volume, complex parts.

Transfer Dies: Move the workpiece between multiple dies or stations for larger or intricate components.

Compound Dies: Execute multiple operations (e.g., cutting and punching) in a single press stroke, improving efficiency for specific designs.

3.Components of a Die:

Punch: The tool that presses into the sheet metal to cut or shape it.

Die Block: The cavity that defines the part’s shape and supports the metal during stamping.

Stripper Plate: Removes the sheet metal from the punch after the operation.

Guide Pins and Bushings: Ensure precise alignment between the punch and die for accuracy.

4.Materials:

Dies are typically made from tool steel, carbide, or other durable materials to withstand high-pressure stamping.

Sheet metals used include aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper, or alloys, depending on the application.
