  • What is casting aluminum?

Casting aluminum is a manufacturing process where molten aluminum is poured or injected into a mold to create precise, complex shapes that solidify into finished parts or components. It’s widely used in industries like lighting, automotive, aerospace, and electronics due to aluminum’s favorable properties: lightweight (one-third the weight of steel), high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, and recyclability. In the context of the lighting industry, casting aluminum is particularly valuable for producing components like heat sinks, lamp housings, and decorative fittings.

Alloy Selection: Common alloys include ADC12 (good for die casting) and 6061 (versatile for machining), chosen based on strength, castability, and cost.

Tooling Costs: Die casting molds are expensive but cost-effective for high volumes.

Environmental Impact: Aluminum is recyclable, aligning with sustainable manufacturing.
