- What do we need to start 3d resin printing?

To get started with 3D resin printing (also known as SLA or MSLA printing), you'll need a setup that prioritizes high detail but involves messy post-processing and safety precautions. Resin printing produces smoother, more detailed results than filament (FDM) printing, but it's more hands-on and requires handling chemicals.
1. Resin 3D Printer
Beginners favor affordable, user-friendly models with good resolution (e.g., 8K–12K+ screens) and features like auto-leveling.Popular beginner options in 2026:
a.Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra — Excellent entry-level choice with 9K resolution, fast printing, AI camera, and easy setup.
b.Anycubic Photon Mono series (e.g., M7 or similar) — Reliable, high-speed, and precise.
c.Other strong contenders: Phrozen models or Uniformation GK series for higher detail.
2. Photopolymer Resin
Start with standard resin (e.g., ABS-like or basic gray for testing). Brands like Elegoo, Anycubic, or Siraya Tech are beginner-friendly.
Consider water-washable resin for easier cleanup (no alcohol needed), but it still requires safety precautions.Buy at least 1–2 liters to start (~$20–$50 per liter).
3. Safety Gear (Essential – Resin is Toxic Uncured)
a.Uncured resin can irritate skin, eyes, and lungs—always prioritize this.Nitrile gloves (thick, disposable) — Never touch resin bare-handed.
b.Safety goggles or UV-protective glasses.
c.Respirator mask (with organic vapor cartridges) for fumes.
d.Good ventilation (open window, exhaust fan, or enclosure with air purifier).
4. Post-Processing Tools
Resin prints need washing (to remove uncured resin) and curing (UV light to harden fully).Must-haves:
a.Isopropyl alcohol (IPA, 99%) or ultrasonic cleaner for washing (or water for washable resin).
b.Wash station (two containers: one dirty, one clean) or dedicated wash/cure machine (highly recommended, e.g., Anycubic or Elegoo Wash & Cure).
c.UV curing station or UV lamp/turntable (or sunlight in a pinch).
d.Silicone mat or tray to catch spills.
e.Plastic scraper/spatula for removing prints.
f.Paper towels, filters (for straining resin back into bottle), and funnels.
5. Software and Models
Free tools:
a.Slicer software → Chitubox (free/basic), Lychee Slicer (great for beginners), or printer-specific ones.
b.Models → Download free from Thingiverse, Printables, or MyMiniFactory.
